September is National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. The goal of the month is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take action. Since 1913 Amateur Radio has been involved in "preparedness" through its committment to Public Service and Emergency Service Communications.
SLSRC will celebrate National Preparedness Month by presenting a special program and informational forum at is regular September meeting, and has created a special E-Com section of the club website dedicated to our long history of preparedness in the support of public service and the public welfare. The program for the September meeting of SLSRC will be an E-COM (Emergency Communications) presentation, in conjunction with National Preparedness Month, designed specifically for Amateurs to both present information related to the different Public Service and Emergency Service venues available to Hams as well as provide an E-COM packet & E-COM wallet card for each person in attendance to take with them.
The progam will include an introductory portion presented by the Board and a Forum portion where representatives of SKYWARN/RACES, the National Traffic System, ARES, CERT and more will be invited to have a table display. The "Forum" portion will give those attending time to visit the different displays and find out more information as well as ask specific questions of the agencies represented. The website "Ready America" hosted by the Department of Homeland Security will also be available live to view and find more information during the Forum portion of the program.
The progarm will be presented at the start of the meeting with a short business meeting after, so those not interested in the business of the club will be able to participate in the program starting at 7:30 PM and leave at their leisure after the conclusion of the program.
Meetings are held in the Nursing Institute on the campus of Missouri Baptist Hospital at I-40 and New Ballas Road. For complete meeting information and directions click here or visit the Meeting Information section of the club website.
